August 2009

I have been trying to breed for Blues and Split to Blues for several years. Well I finally got some very beautiful heathly chicks out of my own flock. They will be 12 months old this winter so I will be setting them up to breed. Will let you know what happen.

February 2009

Well, as you can see I have been neglecting my tips page....I wanted to refresh your memory on how I make my Special Seed Mix. I located a Feed Store that would special order my individual seeds. They come in 50 lb bags. I buy the Japanese, German, Red Proso, Canary (25 lbs) and Thistle (10 lbs). I mix together 15 lbs of Japanese, German, Red and 2 lbs of Canary seeds. I continue to mix the individual seeds until I have all of them mixed together. I store the seeds in a lined 33 gallon container. I don't use the same amount of canary seeds because it is very high in fat and a fat Lady do not make babies.....:) As for the Thistle if I remember I mix in a tbsp in 14 cups of Supplement/Vitamin seeds.

To make my supplement/vitamin seeds I add 2 tablespoons of Red Palm Oil to 14 cups of my Special Seed Mix. Mix well. I let it sit for 24+ hrs. After 24 hrs I add the following ingredients. 3 tbsp of Triple Greens Powder, 3 tbsp of Egg White Powder and 3 tbsp Super Max Pro Boost or Feather Up depending if it is breeding or molting time. Mix well. I pour equal amounts of oil soaked seeds into 2 containers and add an additional 7 cups of dry seeds in each containers. Mix well.

I give my Special Seed Mix to all of my Ladies year round. With the Triple Greens I do not have to give any greens nor have to remove the wilted left overs. With the egg white powder I don't have to worry about boiled eggs going bad in the hot Texas weather if left in their cages too long. The Red Palm Oil do not have any saturated fat so it will not sour or spoil and also it's good for their feathers.

 GOD Bless
